Beginnings

We all know the stories of how creative people get into the business of creating for a living, but how did they start using their imaginations in the first place? On the Beginnings podcast, writer and performer Andy Beckerman asks well-known and up-and-coming comedians, musicians, writers and artists about their earliest creative acts and about other formative childhood experiences.

On today's show, I talk to musician Weasel Walter. Weasel is a take-charge kind of guy, and an iconoclastic personality, and was a major contributor to the Chicago no-wave/noise/improvised music underground during the '90s and early 2000s, most notably with his band The Flying Luttenbachers, which he formed with jazz cult figure Hal Russell. Since then, Weasel has collaborated with people like Jim O'Rourke, Lydia Lunch and Glenn Branca - as well as many, many others - and currently (though not for long) resides in New York where he plays with Cellular Chaos and Behold...The Arctopus.
