Beginnings

We all know the stories of how creative people get into the business of creating for a living, but how did they start using their imaginations in the first place? On the Beginnings podcast, writer and performer Andy Beckerman asks well-known and up-and-coming comedians, musicians, writers and artists about their earliest creative acts and about other formative childhood experiences.

On today's episode, we talk to Ian Roberts. As one of the founding members of the Upright Citizens Brigade, Ian has been a strong comedic force for over two decades. Beyond the sketch show and the three theatres that bear the UCB name, Ian has been a part of many fantastic films and shows. He co-wrote and starred in the film Martin and Orloff, he was featured in the final season of Reno 911!, and he currently executive produces and writes on the Comedy Central show Key and Peele. At the end of July, we sat down with Ian in the Hot Chicks Room (the bar attached to UCB East) during the Del Close Marathon, and basically took a master class in comedy. In this episode, learn how Ian began doing improv, how anger and acting connect and about doing what you love and committing earnestly to it.

Plus! Beginnings: Live at UCB East on 8/14 at 11pm! James Adomian, musical guest Swearin' and more!
