Beginnings

We all know the stories of how creative people get into the business of creating for a living, but how did they start using their imaginations in the first place? On the Beginnings podcast, writer and performer Andy Beckerman asks well-known and up-and-coming comedians, musicians, writers and artists about their earliest creative acts and about other formative childhood experiences.

On today's show we talk to stand-up and writer Aparna Nancherla. Currently a writer for FX's Totally Biased, Aparna is a wonderfully absurdist comic whose credits include being named as one of LA Weekly‘s “12 Comedy Acts to Watch” and Last Comic Standing. She's also appeared around the country at numerous festivals including SXSW, the Bridgetown Comedy Festival and the SF Sketchfest.

In mid-June, Aparna came over to Andy's Harlem apartment on a warm but not-sweltering day to talk about pirate dogs, parental programming, the suburbs, fantasy realms and living in your head.
